American Braille flags

Help us to honor blinded American veterans

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has estimated that there are currently at least 1.2 million visually-impaired American military veterans; of these, at least 150,000 are legally blind. According to the Associated Press, an estimated 35,000 to 53,000 American service members have returned home wounded from Iraq and Afghanistan. The most recent report from the U.S. Department of Defense estimates that of these, 16% have suffered injuries resulting in severe vision loss. These wounded veterans have come home, their lives changed forever; some have come home only to lose their dreams of continuing the careers they left behind when they enlisted in the military to help defend and protect our country. Many have been reduced to living on military service-connected benefits.

Your minimum donation of five dollars will make it possible for blinded veterans to have a flag they too can treasure and appreciate. When sighted Americans all over the world are remembering and honoring such special holidays as Flag Day, Veterans Day, the Fourth of July, Election Day, Memorial Day, and one the saddest days in our country's history, September 11, 2001, these blinded men and women too will be able to display the American flag, one they too can see.

To purchase an American Braille Flag, please see our Braille Flags page.

Partnering with such organizations as the Blinded Veterans Association, the Kansas Braille Transcription Institute is committed to bettering the lives of our blind and visually-impaired veterans. Donations made directly to the Blinded Veterans Association go towards funding education, job training, and financial assistance programs that help these brave men and women to move forward with their lives. Please visit the Blinded Veterans Association's Support page for information on how you can help.

Note: KBTI does not accept donations for the Blinded Veterans Association or other veterans' organizations. All inquiries concerning donations to the Blinded Veterans Association should be directed to the above website.
