Cabral, President/Founder
In 1996 following his father’s diagnosis of glaucoma and
inoperable cataracts Randolph Cabral entered a Braille study program
and later earned national certification as a Braille transcriber.
In 1999 while attending Friends University he researched colleges
and universities nationally to help determine the need for Braille
transcription at the post-secondary education level. His research
led to the founding of the Kansas Braille Transcription Institute,
more notably referred to as KBTI.
Today KBTI is recognized as one of the top Braille training programs
in the nation. Through the development of perhaps the only truly
web-based Braille training program, KBTI will soon be able to
offer Braille and related course studies around the world. KBTI
graduates have produced Braille in numerous formats for institutions
of education, agencies, private citizens and businesses, from
periodicals in English to foreign language orders in Russian and
Brazilian Portuguese. KBTI contractors also produce complex Braille
materials in mathematics, science and music formats, including
tactile maps, charts, graphs, and illustrations.
Living alone
with his Siamese cat Phoenix, Randolph Cabral is a member of the
National Braille Association, American Council of the Blind, and
received specialized training through the American Printing House
for the Blind in the field of computer generated and manual tactile
graphics, along with early developmental children’s materials.
