Dear friend and supporter of the blind:
In an effort to increase literacy among blind children, our Institute needs your help.
Literacy is being able to read and write. Braille is a system of reading and writing used by the blind. Therefore, Braille is literacy to the blind. Imagine what life is like for a child who can not read and write. Now, imagine what life is like for a child who is blind and does not know Braille.
One out of ten blind children does not know Braille. Knowing Braille can help a blind child obtain a better education and have greater independence. While technological advances have made it possible for people who are blind to access more information today than ever before, knowledge of Braille will always be the key to literacy for people who are blind.
Today's blind children stand to become a generation of illiterate blind adults. Seven out of ten blind adults who do not use Braille do not have jobs. However, nine out of ten blind adults who do use Braille have jobs.
Our Institute has already chosen several children's books to be reproduced in Braille. Your gift of $50.00 or more will help lower the cost of making these books available to blind children. However, if you have a children's book you would like reproduced in Braille, reading level K-3, send it with your donation. Mention if you would like to have your name or a child's name Brailled on the cover as the book's owner or donor. Otherwise it will not be added. Your donation may be tax-deductible. Donations may be made with any major credit card through PayPal; monetary donations are also accepted in the form of cash, check, or money order.
